The Alisher Navoi International Scientific Research Centre is one of the landmark public projects within New Tashkent City, Uzbekistan. Dedicated to the legacy of Alisher Navoi—one of Central Asia's most influential poets, scholars and statesmen—the centre brings together culture, research and education within a contemporary civic destination.
Designed by ZHA, the project combines museum, educational and research functions within a highly expressive architectural composition inspired by the rich geometric traditions of Uzbekistan.
Landscape Architecture
The landscape design forms an integral part of the visitor experience, connecting the building with the surrounding public realm and river landscape while creating comfortable outdoor environments for learning, gathering and cultural exchange.
The landscape strategy supports the architectural vision through carefully integrated open spaces, planting, circulation and ecological design, ensuring that the external environment contributes to the identity of the institution rather than functioning merely as its setting.
Materiality and Climate
The architecture celebrates local craftsmanship through vaulted brick construction using bricks produced in traditional kilns in Tashkent. This dialogue between contemporary design and regional building traditions extends into the landscape, where materials, planting and public space reinforce the project's strong connection to place.
Passive environmental strategies contribute to reducing energy demand while creating comfortable conditions for visitors, researchers, students and staff throughout the year.
